INTERNATIONAL SHOW and LE TOUQUET FRANCE MARCH 2008

Formerly known as ‘Paris by the Sea’, Le Touquet was made famous in the 1930s as a playground of the rich and famous. Today Le Touquet has lost little of its glamour, it is still a luxurious destination with opulent hotels, manicured lawns, yet it retains its small town appeal through its boutiques and gastronomic restaurants. Add to this the leisure pursuits – spas, golf courses, casinos and beaches – Le Touquet deserves its reputation as being a very attractive destination all year round.

CHILDREN ON HORSES

In 2007 the BSJA introduced a new class for children aged between 12 and 14 years to compete on horses. This class has been running in Europe for several years with great success. Yazmin who is trained by Duncan Inglis from West Sussex suggested that this would be a good time for Yazmin to be introduced to horses especially as there was a Children on Horses viewing trials in May at Wales and West Show ground. As a result of these classes run over three days the BSJA would pick a team to represent Great Britain at the European Championships in Istanbul in July.
Duncan recommended Zodiac Z a 16.1 6 year old bay gelding who was purchased by Yazmin’s parents just 4 days before the viewing trials began.
Yazmin did really well with ‘Zac’ at Wales and on the last day the pair came 5th in the grand prix. After this Yazmin and Zac went on to Le Mans in France and Won every day including the grand prix and was leading rider. They then travelled to Lamprechthausen in Austria and jumped a double clear round on the first two days which qualified Yazmin to compete in the World Championships in Mexico.
The last viewing trials was held at Weston Lawns in Warwickshire where Yazmin and Zac again jumped double clear. As a result of this Yazmin was picked for the Children on Horses team in Istanbul, Turkey. Yazmin could not have hoped for any more.

EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS, ISTANBUL, TURKEY JULY 2007

The horses were flown to Istanbul and arrived in boiling weather conditions. 5 Brits were selected to go – Yazmin with Zodiac Z, Megan James with Mandana, Graham Gillespie with Ara, Chloe Aston with Liela De Reve and Nikki Freeman.
Zac jumped clear every day but unfortunately they incurred one time penalty which they carried with them to the final round. Yazmin and her horse gained an even stronger relationship during this show and performed amazingly well to help the team win a gold medal for Great Britain.
On the final day Yazmin performed really well to win the silver medal individually. Graham and Ara took gold and Czech Republic won bronze. Everyone in the team and their families had a great time and gained valuable international experience.

"All four team members have given solid performances at a level of competition none of them have experienced before. They all held their nerve, raised their game and we could not have asked for a better result."
Twelve-year-old Graham and Yasmin, 14, went on to capture the gold and silver individual medals, with Megan finishing equal fourth.

Mexico Bound

Graham Gillespie from Alexandria, Dunbartonshire and Yasmin Pinchen from Crawley, West Sussex performed well at FEI Children’s International Final held in Jalapa, Mexico at the weekend by finishing eighth and eleventh overall.
Both Graham and Yasmin were members of the British Team who won Team Gold at the Children on Horses European Championships in Istanbul in June this year and later qualified for the Finals in Mexico, where they competed on borrowed horses.
In the first qualifying competition, Yasmin did extremely well to finish with no faults on her borrowed horse Argentino, while Graham picked up four faults with his horse Mambru. Yasmin’s consistency continued in the second qualifying competition which put her in third position with another clear round. Graham was unlucky to have another four faults to put him in thirteenth place.
In the final competition on Saturday, both Graham and Yasmin finished on four faults each, but Graham rode the fastest round of those on four faults to finish in eighth place. Both riders did well in their first year competing in the Children’s Final, and against a strong home team from Mexico.
