Yazmin was born 3rd June 1993 in Redhill, Surrey and currently lives with her parents Gary and Nancy and older sister Jorden in Rusper, West Sussex. She enjoys all sports especially Show Jumping and Lacrosse. Yaz has been involved with horses all of her life as her mother has also taken a big interest in the sport competing herself until a few years ago. Yaz started riding at three years of age and competed in pony club activities until she was eight. She and her sister then joined B.S – British Showjumping as it is now called (formerly B.S.J.A) and started competing on 128 ponies.
She enjoyed great success on Tullibard’s Magic Trick and Dynamite Diggy but unfortunately broke her hip when she was nine and had to have a year off riding. This was a huge disappointment to Yazmin who had to sell her ponies but a year later was back on young novice ponies – Tisrara Snowy and Mysterix both purchased from Rapkyns Sport Horses in Horsham, Sussex. This was a good learning curve for her as she had to produce them from jumping small courses up to the Horse of the Year Show qualifiers. When she was 12 she moved onto 138cm ponies and had her first major success of winning a gold medal for England on the pony team in Cavan, Ireland on Gemstone Jet.
In the same year 5 year old novice 148cm beautiful connemara pony was purchased from Rapkyns called Drimna Magic Lady. She started off in British Novice classes of 95cm and progressed up through the grades qualifying for Horse of the Year show and the JC final in Hickstead’s main ring. This pony never came home without a rosette and won many placings in international shows as well. She also won the Intro Grand Prix at Pony of the Year show and really helped Yazmin’s riding and confidence improve.
In 2008 Fabian and Edsilia joined her team of 148 ponies and started her on the road to success. In 2008 and 2009 she qualified them for Horse of the Year Show and won and had many top placings at Scope, Hoys, Hickstead, represented GB in Nation Cups (won gold and silver team medals) and International Shows abroad.
Yazmin’s ambitions are to qualify for Horse of the Year Show, Hickstead, British Open, Olympia, to jump consistent double clears in 1.40m classes and above and to represent her country on Nation Cup teams and hopefully one day compete in the Olympics!
